|---|---|
| Replying to messages you send us | We cannot answer a question or act on a correction without your contact details and message |
| Operating and delivering the site | Server logs and necessary cookies are required to serve pages reliably |
| Security and protection against misuse (through Cloudflare) | IP addresses and technical data help detect and block attacks and abusive traffic |
| Understanding search performance through Google Search Console | Aggregated, anonymous search data shows how the site appears in Google; it does not identify individual visitors |
| Meeting legal obligations | We may need to keep or disclose information where New Zealand law requires it |
We do not use your information for any other purpose unless you have agreed to it or the Privacy Act 2020 allows it.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for:
- Messages you send us: up to three years after our last contact, then deleted, unless we are legally required to keep them longer

- Cloudflare security logs: typically kept for around 30 days
- Necessary cookies: from a single session (removed when you close your browser) up to one year for some Cloudflare security cookies
Once information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Who we share your information with
We never sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing. We rely on the following third-party service providers to run the site. They handle information on our behalf, and we remain responsible for it under the Privacy Act 2020:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (hosting) – processes server logs and IP addresses as part of hosting the site. Location: Germany (European Union). Privacy policy
- Cloudflare, Inc. (security and delivery) – processes IP addresses and technical data. Location: United States, with servers worldwide. Privacy policy
- Google LLC (Search Console) – provides us with aggregated, anonymous search data. Location: United States. Privacy policy

- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it
- ask us to correct information you believe is wrong, or to attach a statement of the correction you asked for if we do not agree to change it
