Welcome to wellingtonbaseball.co.nz, an independent information site about baseball, written for readers in Wellington and across New Zealand. Our aim is simple: to make the game easy to understand, whether you are picking up a bat for the first time or trying to follow Major League Baseball (MLB) from the other side of the Pacific.

We are an information site only. We are not a club, a league or a governing body, and we do not run registrations, competitions or events. We are not a betting operator either. We do not take bets, sell betting products or handle anyone’s money.

What we do

On wellingtonbaseball.co.nz you will find plain-language guides to how baseball is played, the equipment the game uses, the statistics behind a box score, and the leagues and tournaments that New Zealand fans follow. Much of our writing is aimed at beginners, so we assume no prior knowledge.

In practice, that means we work to:

Our principles

Everything we publish rests on three principles: it should be fact-based, independent and easy to follow.

We check details against primary sources wherever possible, such as MLB, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), Baseball New Zealand, official broadcasters and New Zealand legislation. If we cannot confirm something, we leave it out.

We also avoid presenting fast-moving numbers as fixed facts. Live scores, standings and betting odds change by the hour, so we explain how to read them and where to find the current figures rather than printing a snapshot that will soon be out of date.

Our descriptions stay the same regardless of which team, brand, broadcaster or operator is involved. We do not favour one over another.

The editorial team

The content on wellingtonbaseball.co.nz is written and reviewed by a small editorial team.

Callum Ridgeway – editor and writer. Callum is responsible for what is published on the site. He plans the topics we cover, writes and edits the guides, and checks that each article is accurate, clearly worded and in line with our principles before it goes live. He also looks after corrections and updates when readers point out something that needs fixing.

How we use AI

Parts of our content are prepared with the help of AI tools, including Claude from Anthropic, which support research, outlining and first drafts. Nothing is published straight from an AI tool. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by our editorial team first, and responsibility for the published content always rests with us.

You can read more about this in our AI policy.

Contact

Have you found an error, an out-of-date detail, or do you have a question about something we have written? We would like to hear from you. Feedback helps us keep the site accurate and useful.

Gamble responsibly

Some of our articles explain how sports betting on baseball works and what New Zealand law says about it. That content is there for understanding only. We do not offer betting tips, we do not encourage anyone to bet, and we do not sell any gambling product.

Betting always carries a risk of losing money and can lead to gambling harm. In New Zealand you must be 18 or older to bet with the TAB. Only ever gamble with money you can afford to lose.
